NECC and NEV Combining Forces to Support NE Portland Older Adults

Northeast Village PDX
The Northeast Community Center is excited to announce that on January 1, we are teaming up with Northeast Village PDX! NEV is part of a growing nationwide movement of volunteer-led, grassroots organizations that operate to change the paradigm of aging. With the goal of providing a better experience of aging and allowing community members to age in their own homes, Village Volunteers bring services and social connections directly to community members.

One of the organization’s most popular services is its driving assistance program. Village Members are connected with Volunteer drivers, who provide rides to the grocery store, medical appointments, errands, or social events. Also extremely popular are NEV’s activities and events: neighborhood walks, book clubs, morning coffee gatherings and happy hours, and special interest educational and discussion groups. Through this support and connection, Village Members remain an integral part of the NE Portland community in which they live.

Each neighborhood Village is a separate entity, and Membership is open to persons residing in each Village’s geographic boundaries. While the greater Portland area boasts 11 Villages, NEV welcomes Members from sixteen NE Portland neighborhoods, including Alameda, Rose City, Cully, Concordia, and Parkrose. Click here to see NEV’s boundaries.

NEV will be integrating into the NECC as one of our programs. NECC’s programs and activities are similarly designed to build and support intergenerational community in NE Portland, and we’ll be looking for ways to grow our programming, expand financial support, and embed equity and inclusion into the work of both organizations.

We are excited about the opportunities this merger will bring and look forward to seeing how our collective efforts can positively impact the experience of aging for neighbors across NE Portland.

Interested in Learning More? NEV will be holding a general informational meeting from 1:00-2:30 pm on Thursday, December 8, at the Hollywood Library. We’ll continue to talk about how our communities will come together in future newsletters, so keep an eye out!
