After School Time
Join us for After School Time at the NECC! Kids will have a safe environment to make friends, play sports and active games, have homework help, work on arts and crafts, eat snacks, and more! After School Time is a recorded program through the State of Oregon Office of Child Care.
The mission of the youth programs at the Northeast Community Center is to provide a safe and supportive environment for young people in Portland to learn, grow, and thrive. Through a variety of engaging and inclusive activities and services, we aim to promote the physical, social, and emotional well-being of youth and empower them to become confident, responsible, and engaged members of their community.

If you have already completed this form, you do not need to do it again. We will email all families on the waitlist at the end of the 2023-24 school year to establish who is interested in Fall 2024.
2024-25 After School Time Start Date: September 3rd, 2024 – NECC closes the last week of August to give all staff a paid break week and do yearly maintenance on the building. The official PPS start date is August 27th but After School Time will not begin until the following week.
- Days: Monday – Friday (only operates on days PPS holds classes)
- Times: 2:45 – 6:00 pm
- Price: $43/day or $190/week (monthly payment plans are available)
- Grades: Kindergarten – 5th
- Snacks: 2 snacks provided daily (protein bars, applesauce, fruit leather, seaweed, etc. and occasional treats!)
- Drop-off & Pick-up: Children and families are free to come and go anytime during program hours.
- Laurelhurst pickup happens daily at 3:15 pm; children are picked up on foot and walk back to the center with staff members (1/2 mile walk). Rain or shine!
- If your child goes to Richmond Elementary, there is a school bus stop 258 in front of NECC. Please contact the Youth Programs Manager for help determining if you are eligible.
- Not a student at Richmond or Laurelhurst Elementary? We enroll students from all schools, but families must do self-drop-off during program hours.
- Swim Lessons & Other Activities: If your child signs up for our other youth offerings, such as sports classes, art classes, dance classes, or swim lessons, we can usher them to/from their activity. For swim lessons, trained staff will take children to the locker room where they will be able to change in a private stall. Staff will assist them with all the steps before and after swim lessons and escort them to and from their swim instructor in the pool.
- Registration: Families can pick and choose whichever days work for them. Registration is completed three times during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. For detailed information on how our registration process works, click here.
- Accommodations: To inquire about special accommodations, please reach out to the Youth Programs Manager. We are prepared to care for neurodivergent children and work with families to meet children’s specific needs. Please note, our program allows kids to have extended periods of free time, which can be challenging for children who succeed with more structure or more individualized guidance and redirection. If you would like to discuss if this would be the right fit for your child, please reach out to the program manager.
