Board and Volunteer Opportunities
We're Recruiting Volunteers!
The NECC is an independent non-profit community center and treasured neighborhood anchor in NE Portland. Located in the former NE Family YMCA facility, the NECC is a thriving hub that offers recreation, aquatics, fitness, wellness, and enrichment programs and activities for all ages. Valued by staff and participants for its welcoming intergenerational environment, the NECC strives to strengthen the fabric of our community by providing opportunities to stay active, socially connected, and physically/mentally healthy.
NECC Committees – this is where the action is! The NECC’s Board of Directors recently reorganized its working committees to open them up for public participation and is looking for volunteers! With this change we hope to increase community engagement and build a stronger organization for the future. If you are looking for a place to apply your skills or learn new ones, all while helping build community, please consider volunteering for one of the committees below. If you’d like to join a committee meeting and see if it’s a good fit, don’t hesitate to reach out to the committee chairperson.
Internal Affairs Committee
Are you a numbers person, a human resources professional or facility management expert? Come join our committee that focuses on all internal and operational issues coming before the board. These include issues related to finance, investments, capital acquisitions, human resources, and facilities. Meets monthly. Contact Virginia at virginiad@neccpdx.org to learn more.
External Affairs Committee
Do you love to write, hold fun events, copyedit, manage public affairs, develop social media plans, or just want to learn how to do this better? The External Affairs Committee might just be for you. It focuses on all external issues, including fundraising, public relations, publications (such as the annual report) and marketing. Meets monthly. Contact Virginia at virginiad@neccpdx.org to learn more.
Governance Committee
This new committee is responsible for the health and functioning of the board. We would love to have experts in organizational development, past board experience, and legal eagles. The Governance Committee will help ensure the good functioning of the board today and for recruiting and preparing tomorrow’s leaders. This committee may meet one to two times a year. Contact Gary at garyg@neccpdx.org to learn more.
NECC Board of Directors
We are also looking for new board members to join an organization undergoing a reimagining. The NECC is expanding its community engagement efforts to become a more inclusive organization that embraces equity, diversity and inclusion in all governance and operations. To that end, we are looking for volunteers to help us transition to a more multicultural organization. Perhaps you’ve gained experience in implementing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) plans at your own workplace and want to help someone else navigate the opportunities and challenges of DEI work? We are looking for people who want to roll up their sleeves and dive into this transformation that will ultimately build a more inclusive board, committees and operations team.
