Over the course of two sessions, we will work our way through the five A’s: Awareness, Alertness, Avoidance, Anticipation, and Action covering preventative measures as well as footwork, striking, and grappling basics on our own or with partners in class. While you can find benefit from practicing with a partner and instructors, this course does not require any physical contact. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.
This self- defense course is an affinity space for trans women, cis women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people who feel most comfortable in women’s affinity spaces. Please note that our instructor does not identify as female.

These sessions are suitable for players who are 2.5 +. What is a 2.5 level player? That is a beginner to intermediate player who understands the basic rules, can sustain a short rally, hit basic strokes like forehands and backhands with some direction, and is starting to develop consistency with serves and returns, but may struggle with advanced shot placement and court positioning. They know that dinks and volleys are important but may not always play from the kitchen line.
The Volley Session: You simply cannot win pickleball games without learning to volley the pickleball. In this session we will utilize the ball machine and you will hit five different kinds of volleys with many, many repetitions. Class size limited to six people to ensure everyone gets lots of shots in. Coaching is available as part of the session, as players desire, but advanced players are welcome to attend and get in some reps.
The Strategy Session: This session will focus on the all-important first 3 to 6 shots of the game. Learn where to hit those shots, and why to hit them there. This session can change the way you see the pickleball court and help you win more games. Stop playing pickleball without a plan!
Ball Machine Session: We will unleash The Lobster and spend the first hour hitting shots from the baseline — think return of serve, third shot drive, drop shots and more, both forehand and backhand. You can practice any shots you want, and hit many, many repetitions. Then in the second hour, we focus on net play — lots and lots of volleys, and perhaps even some dinking. Coaching on shot making available as desired.
Doubles Strategy: Are you just hitting the pickleball over the net at random? Start playing pickleball with a plan to win! In this session we will discuss and drill the most successful pickleball strategies, with a focus on partner movement and cooperation and an introduction to stacking.
