After School Time
Join us for After School Time at the NECC! Kids will have a safe environment to make friends, play sports and active games, work on arts and crafts, eat snacks, and more! After School Time is a recorded program through the State of Oregon Office of Child Care.
The mission of the youth programs at the Northeast Community Center is to provide a safe and supportive environment for young people in Portland to learn, grow, and thrive. Through a variety of engaging and inclusive activities and services, we aim to promote the physical, social, and emotional well-being of youth and empower them to become confident, responsible, and engaged members of their community.

- Swim Lessons & Other Activities: If your child signs up for our other youth offerings, such as sports classes, art classes, dance classes, or swim lessons, we can usher them to/from their activity. For swim lessons, trained staff will take children to the locker room where they will be able to change in a private stall. Staff will assist them with all the steps before and after swim lessons and escort them to and from their swim instructor in the pool.
- Scheduling & Registration: Families can pick and choose whichever days work for them. Registration is completed three times during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. For detailed information on how our registration process works, click here.
- Accommodations: To inquire about special accommodations, please reach out to the Youth Programs Manager. We are prepared to care for neurodivergent children and work with families to meet children’s specific needs. Please note, our program allows kids to have extended periods of free time, which can be challenging for children who succeed with more structure or more individualized guidance and redirection. If you would like to discuss if this would be the right fit for your child, please reach out to the program manager.
School Pickup and Parent Drop-off
Laurelhurst Elementary – We pick up on foot from Laurelhurst Elementary daily at 3:15 pm. Children are picked up by our staff members from their classroom meeting point and walk back to the center as a group (1/2 mile walk). Rain or shine!
Richmond Elementary – If your child attends Richmond Elementary, school bus 258 stops at NECC’s front doors. A staff member meets the children at the door of the bus, takes attendance, and walks them into the center. Children do not get off the bus until a staff member arrives to greet them. Please contact the Youth Programs Manager for help determining if you are eligible.
Other Schools: Not a student at Richmond or Laurelhurst Elementary? We enroll students from all schools, but families must do self-drop-off during program hours.
