Forest Inside Out Camp (Ages 6-11)
August 13 - August 14
World Forestry Center will be running this FREE program. NECC staff will be supervising our group. This two-day event includes guided tours at the World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, The Hoyt Arboretum and the Columbia River Gorge– including fantastic hikes and giant fish! Each child will receive a free t-shirt. See Times/Register

Participants will need to bring a sack lunch, water bottle and wear appropriate walking shoes (no flip-flops or sandals). Kids will need to arrive promptly at 8:40am both days and a parent must be back at NECC at 2:45pm for pick up. Kids will be traveling by bus to and from the NECC.

Exploring PDX (Ages 8-13)
August 4 - August 8
Using mass transit, campers set out on a new adventure each day, finding treasure in Portland to enjoy. Explore downtown fountains, the 4T trail in SW, and more, all while learning the layout and Portland mass transit system. Meet at the NECC, and end each camp day with a swim in our pool. See Times/Register

We will explore the fountains of downtown, the 4T trail in southwest, and others while learning the mass transit system and layout of Portland. Start and end your day at the Northeast Community Center, and end each day with swim time. Bring your own water battle and sack, lunch as well as dress for the weather. Before and after care is available for an additional fee.

Art Adventures Mini Day Camp (Ages 4-6)
August 4-7 (Before and After Care- not available)
Campers will explore color and creativity, and learn to draw cartoon animals while using a different medium each day: watercolor, pastel, clay, and colored pencil. Camp will also incorporate fun “camp games” in between projects. Opportunity to help prepare your child for Kindergarten. Camp Director will be Maggie Poland, Kindergarten teacher. Messy Art for Toddlers!

Saturday Jump! NEW                                                                                                       Kids work together in a fun & rewarding environment all while learning to jump rope. Each jumper will learn routines to music and will be challenged to work at their own skill level. Everyone is welcome! Class will include a cardio warm-up and a variety of jumping techniques.   • Intro to Volleyball: Learn to love volleyball in a healthy environment with this intro class! Goal is to provide the building blocks to volleyball while also building confidence and sense of accomplishment. Oct 18th / 1-3pm  / Ages 7-9
  • Setting & Hitting: Clinic will focus on fundamentals of setting and hitting different types of sets as well as proper form, approach and placement. Oct 18th / 10am-12:30pm / Ages 10-15
  • Serving & Passing: Clinic will focus on fundamentals of passing and serving to target with proper form. Nov 29th / 10am-12:30pm / Ages 10-15
  • Readiness Clinic: Have an important tryout coming up? This clinic will help to refresh and refine skills already learned while providing important feedback pertaining to what coaches look for in an athlete. Coach Bios

Coach Miranda Coonrod is the co-director and coach with a local club team, Fire Volleyball. She has been coaching club for the past 11 years, and was a junior club player for 3 years. While in high school, Miranda played on the varsity team for 3 years as the middle blocker, and was awarded MVP by her teammates and coaches. During this time, she was also a volunteer coach for the Community Education Program. After High School, Miranda went on to play middle blocker for Clark College. Miranda had the #1 blocking average and the 11th best hitting average in 2003. She was also awarded 2nd Team All League. She currently works here at the NECC as our Operations Associate!

Coach Kelsey Kai captained her Reynolds High School team as a senior and graduated from Reynolds in 2009. She was named team MVP as a junior and senior, was a two-time winner of the Raider Award, selected for the National Guard “You Can” Award, and was a three-time all-conference selection. She also played for the Northwest Juniors Club for seven years. She went on to play volleyball at Mt. Hood Community College in 2009-2011 where she was two-time all-conference selection as Libero. Kelsey was a Defensive Specialist for Concordia University. She is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Pre-Ballet   Introduces classical ballet steps and french terminology with incoorparating creative movement in a encouraging and joyful environment.  Students are given individual attention and guidance. Classes often incorporate Free Dance to give children the opportunity for self-expression. We will also work with the ballet barre, explore story ballets, and learn a piece of choreography about the ballet.

Ages: 3-4 . 4-5 . 5-6

Creative Ballet  A great class for both boys, girls and a child that requires a more high energy approach to movement. We will learn the same fundamentals as taught in Pre ballet with a more free, creative and less structured approach. Students will learn ballet fundamentals and French terminology in a very fun high energy environment. They will create their own movements and act out a story dances. Core strength, balance, coordination, acting, and rhythm are just part of everyday class.

Ages: 5-7

Ballet I/II  Builds on the fundamentals learned in pre ballet. This class requires more focus and body awareness and continues the work of nurturing the individual dancer in each child.In addition to the Pre-Ballet description, we continue our ballet journey together by focusing on correct ballet position, lines and posture, and memorizing combinations and choreography.

The Magical Nutcracker Experience                                                                                      Registration Members Oct 7th/Non-Members Oct 9th 

Dance like the Sugar Plum Fairy, fight like the Mouse King!! This special 6 week class is being offered to both boys and girls for ages 3-8. We will study the Nutcracker story and explore the characters with movement and acting. We will finish with our very own Nutcracker performance Thursday Dec 18th 6:45-7:45pm in the Gym at the NE Community Center. This performance is open to all NECC members and the student’s family and friends. These classes fill up quickly.

This class package includes unlimited 50% off tickets to see the Nutcracker Ballet at The Oregon Ballet Theatre for selected shows. You can invite the whole family for a holiday treat. Ticket orders must go through Teacher Katarina for this special offer. After each performance there will be a “Meet and Greet” Q & A and autograph time with the dancers.See More Information

Registration Policies:

Registration is not required for classes that are included with membership. Fee-based and enrichment classes require preregistration.
Our classes must meet minimum and maximum enrollment standards. Classes may fill quickly or classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment.
 
NECC REFUND POLICY:
 A full refund is available only if the participant withdraws at least 3 days prior to the start of the class or activity. If the participant withdraws after that time, NECC will provide participant with a credit to their NECC account for the full amount paid for the class or activity less a 10% administrative fee. That credit can be applied towards any future NECC class or activity, and it will expire one year from the date of issue. If the participant withdraws after the class has begun, NECC is unable to provide a refund or credit.
We are unable to prorate classes for students joining a class late, leaving a class early, or missing a class during the term. If participant misses a regularly scheduled class, we are unable to offer makeup classes.
